Grinview Smiles offers apicoectomy at our office in Grandview, Texas, for patients ages 7 and up from across Johnson County. Call (817) 866-2065 or book online.
What it is
Most teeth heal well after a root canal. Sometimes the tip of a root stays inflamed or gets reinfected. An apicoectomy removes that root tip and seals the end of the root, so the bone can heal around it.
How it works
- We numb the area
- We make a small opening in the gum to reach the root tip
- We remove the tip and any infected tissue
- We place a small filling to seal the root
- A few stitches help the gum heal
Healing
Over the next few months, the bone fills back in around the root. We'll check your progress with X-rays or a 3D scan.
We're in network with Delta Dental, Cigna, Guardian, Humana and more, file your claim for you, and offer financing through CareCredit and Compassionate Finance.

Sometimes that's the better option. A 3D CBCT scan helps us decide which approach gives your tooth the best chance.
Is recovery hard?
Most people have mild soreness for a few days and get back to normal routines quickly.
How do I know if I need one?
Pain or swelling around a tooth that already had a root canal is a sign to call us.
